EarthCare Team

“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors.  We borrow it from our children.” –Tommy Orange, author of “There There.”

To become certified as a PC(USA) EarthCare Congregation churches take the “Earth Care Pledge” and complete activities and projects in the areas of worship, education, facilities, and outreach.

As part of our commitment to be stewards of God’s earth, the Session of APC unanimously re-affirmed its 2018 approval of the EarthCare Pledge on January 21, 2024.

Atascocita Presbyterian Church’s application for re-certification as a 2024 EarthCare Congregation was approved on March 3 by the Presbyterian Hunger Program of Presbyterian Church (USA). The EarthCare Team is pleased to have received this certification each year since 2018 showing APC’s commitment to the EarthCare Pledge.

2025 is shaping up to be another busy year for the Earth Care Team:

In 2023,in response to the growing food insecurity in our community, APC had the bold idea of starting a garden on our campus.  With donated materials and the dedication of a newly formed gardening team we broke ground on a small 320 square foot garden.  The team grew tomatoes, peas, okra, and peppers, donating 100% of our harvest to the local food bank of Humble Area Assistance Ministries.  Since 2023 we have increased our garden size by 1/3, built a composting station, and added a pollinator and wildflower garden to our campus.  Future plans include an additional expansion of our garden space to include strawberries and blackberries, garlic and onions.  The garden team is always ready to welcome volunteers who enjoy getting their hands dirty.

Harvests are contributed to Humble Area Assistance Ministries’ Food Pantry for distribution.
