Practical Questions

  • Can I take Communion? Yes, PC(USA) practices open communion. All Christians who trust in Jesus Christ are welcome to participate.
  • What should I wear? Attire can range from casual jeans to business-casual slacks and dresses.
  • What translation of the Bible is used? The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV or NRSVue) is our standard translation.
  • What is the service format? Services follow a traditional liturgical order: gathering, confession, hearing the Word (sermon), responding (offering/prayers), and sending.

Theological & Social Questions

  • What are the core beliefs? Salvation is through grace alone by faith in Jesus Christ, with a strong emphasis on the sovereignty of God and the authority of Scripture.
  • What is the church’s stance on social issues? PC(USA) is a mainline Protestant denomination, including ordination of women and LGBTQ+ individuals to all offices of ministry.
  • What are the two sacraments? The denomination recognizes two sacraments: Baptism (infant and believer) and the Lord’s Supper (Communion).

Community & Governance Questions

  • What does “Presbyterian” mean? The name comes from the Greek word presbyteros, “elder,” reflecting our governance by elected lay leaders (elders).
  • How do I join? We offer new member classes. New members are welcomed in worship after making a public profession of faith or transferring a certificate from another church.
